Comparing them fairly means looking at more than a headline number: how prices are quoted, how dentists are regulated, how far you have to fly, and what happens if something needs fixing later. Which is cheaper for dental work: Korea, Thailand or Turkey?

There is no single answer, because prices in all three countries vary widely between clinics and quotes often bundle different things. Thailand and Turkey are widely advertised with low package prices; Korea publishes clinic-level prices for many non-covered treatments. Compare itemized quotes for the same treatment, then add travel costs from where you live.

We do not quote Thai or Turkish prices here, because we could not verify them from a neutral, reputable source, and package prices change often. In Korea, Lucid Dental Clinic's listed reference fees include a complete implant at about ₩1,190,000–1,490,000 before grafting (≈US$850–1,064) and LUCINATE porcelain veneers from ₩1,190,000 per tooth (≈US$850), at roughly ₩1,400 per US$ (check today's rate). How do the three countries compare on the basics?

Euronews reported in 2022 that an estimated 150,000 to 250,000 foreign patients go to Turkey each year for dental work, and that the number of dental faculties there grew from 35 in 2010 to 104. The head of the Istanbul Chamber of Dentists voiced concern about that growth, while the Turkish Dental Association defended the sector. The British Dental Association has warned of "considerable risks" with cut-price treatment abroad.

What should I watch for in any country?

The risks are not about a passport stamp; they come from how a clinic treats you. The UK's NHS lists hard sales tactics, pressure to decide quickly and little discussion of complications as warning signs. Common concerns with low-cost packages include:

• Heavy tooth reduction for full-coverage crowns when a less invasive option might do
• Many teeth treated in very few days, with no time for review
• No itemized plan, so you cannot tell what was done
• No clear route for repairs after you fly home

Which treatments are hardest to compare?

Implants and full-smile makeovers. An implant quote may or may not include the abutment, the crown, grafting or a second trip, and the implant brand can differ. A "smile makeover" may mean 8 veneers in one clinic and 20 crowns in another, which are very different treatments for your teeth. Single fillings or a cleaning are easier to compare, but rarely worth an international trip by themselves.

How do I compare quotes across countries?

1. Use the same treatment plan: same number of teeth, same type of restoration.
2. Ask each clinic to itemize the exam, imaging, each tooth, materials and brand.
3. Ask how much tooth will be removed for veneers or crowns, and why.
4. Add flights and hotel nights from your home city for every trip needed.
5. Check the dentist's registration with that country's regulator.
6. Ask what happens if something fails after you leave, and get it in writing.
7. Talk to your home dentist before you commit.
