A dental implant replaces a missing tooth root with a small titanium post, then adds a crown that looks and works like a tooth. If you are thinking of having this done in Seoul, you probably want three answers: what it costs, what the steps are, and what kind of result to expect. Here they are, in that order.

What are the steps in implant treatment?
Most implant cases follow the same sequence, though the waiting times differ from person to person.
- Exam and 3D scan: a CT scan shows bone height, width and nearby nerves or sinuses.
- Planning: you get a written plan with the fixture type, any grafting and reference fees.
- Placement: under local anesthesia, the fixture is placed into the jawbone and the gum is closed.
- Healing: the bone fuses with the implant. Cleveland Clinic gives a typical range of three to nine months for this step.
- Abutment and crown: once healing is confirmed, a scan is taken and the zirconia crown is fitted.
- Maintenance: regular check-ups and cleaning keep the gum and bone around the implant healthy.
For overseas patients this usually means two trips. The implant timeline guide shows how to plan them around work and flights.
Can it be done faster?
In some cases, yes. Lucid offers One-Day Implants and plasma-activated implants, but suitability depends on bone quality and the stability of the implant when it is placed.
"One-day" usually means the implant and a temporary tooth can go in during the same visit, not that the final crown is finished that day. Your bone still needs time to heal. Read more about same-day implants in Seoul.
What results can you realistically expect?
A well-healed implant should feel stable and let you chew normally. Cleveland Clinic states that with proper care an implant can last a lifetime, while the crown on it typically lasts around 15 years before it may need replacing.
Results are not the same for everyone. Smoking or vaping, untreated gum disease, poorly controlled diabetes and heavy grinding raise the risk of problems. Possible complications include infection, swollen or bleeding gums, and an implant that fails to bond and loosens. Individual results vary; a consultation and exam are required.
Who is a good candidate for implants?
Adults with healthy gums and enough jawbone are usually good candidates. Cleveland Clinic notes a minimum age of 18 and no upper age limit.
If bone is thin, a graft or sinus lift may come first, which adds cost and healing time. Our bone graft and sinus lift guide explains when these are needed. If you have several missing teeth, a bridge or denture may also be worth comparing.
How does an implant compare with a bridge?
A bridge is faster but relies on the neighbouring teeth; an implant stands on its own. That difference often decides the choice.
To fit a bridge, the teeth on each side of the gap are usually shaped down to hold crowns, which is a reasonable trade if they already have large fillings. If they are healthy, an implant leaves them untouched. A bridge often fits within a single trip, while an implant needs months of healing. Bridge fees are quoted after an exam; see dental bridges in Seoul.
How should you plan the trip around your implant?
Leave a buffer day or two after surgery before flying, keep to soft foods, and pack your medicines and aftercare sheet in your carry-on.
Our guide on implant aftercare when flying long distance covers swelling, pressure changes and what to eat. Who will check the implant once you are home also matters, so ask for copies of your X-rays and records before you leave.

Frequently asked questions
Will I have a gap while the implant heals?
For front teeth, a temporary tooth is often arranged so you are not left with a visible gap. Options depend on the site and are discussed at planning.
Is implant surgery done under general anesthesia?
Implants are usually placed under local anesthesia. Lucid also offers conscious sedation for anxious patients, which is assessed at your consultation.
Can an implant be placed the same day a tooth is pulled?
Sometimes, if the bone and gum are healthy and the implant is stable. Otherwise the site is left to heal first.
Can my dentist at home look after a Korean implant?
Yes, routine checks and cleaning can be done by any dentist. Bring your records, including the implant brand and size, so parts can be matched if needed.
Does smoking affect implants?
Yes. Smoking and vaping can slow healing and raise the risk of implant problems, so cutting down or stopping around treatment is strongly advised.
