Where can you get professional teeth whitening in Gangnam?

Lucid Dental Clinic offers dentist-supervised whitening in Gangnam, directly in front of Exit 3 of Eonju Station on Line 9. It is a short ride from Gangnam Station, Yeoksam and Sinnonhyeon, and we open until 20:30 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, so many office workers and visitors come after work. Consultations are available in English, Japanese and Chinese.

Whitening is quoted after a short exam, because the right method and the number of sessions depend on your teeth, your stains and any existing fillings or crowns.

Who should wait before whitening?

Whitening is not the right first step for everyone. Untreated cavities, cracked teeth, exposed roots or active gum disease should be treated first, because the gel can irritate those areas. Children and teens are usually advised to wait, and people with very sensitive teeth may do better with a gentler take-home plan. If you work nearby and can only come in the evening, our page on a dentist open late in Gangnam explains how midweek appointments work.

Which whitening options are there?

There are three broad types. The American Dental Association's MouthHealthy site describes in-office "chairside bleaching", which usually takes one visit; take-home whitening with custom trays from a dentist, which takes from a few days to a few weeks; and over-the-counter products, which use lower bleach concentrations.

Type Where Typical time Good for
In-office whitening At the clinic, with gums protected Usually one visit Visitors on a short stay who want a visible change quickly
Take-home trays At home, with custom trays from the dentist A few days to a few weeks Expats and longer stays; gradual, adjustable results
Over-the-counter At home, store-bought Varies Light touch-ups between professional treatments

Which one fits you is discussed at the exam. For the price side, see our teeth whitening cost in Seoul guide.

What can whitening not change?

Whitening only works on natural tooth enamel. MouthHealthy states plainly that "whitening will not work on caps, veneers, crowns or fillings." It also notes that yellow teeth usually bleach well, brown teeth may respond less, and teeth with gray tones may not bleach at all. If your front teeth have old white fillings or crowns, they may look darker after whitening and need replacing to match. When stains do not respond, our guide on veneers vs whitening explains the next step.

Will whitening make my teeth sensitive?

It might, for a short time. According to MouthHealthy, sensitivity happens when peroxide passes through enamel to the dentin and irritates the nerve, and it is usually temporary. Overuse of whiteners can damage enamel or gums, which is one reason to whiten under a dentist's guidance rather than repeating store products. If you already have sensitive teeth, tell us before treatment; our guide to sensitive teeth treatment in Seoul covers ways to manage it.

What happens at a whitening visit at Lucid?

  1. Quick exam. We check for decay, gum problems, cracks and existing restorations.
  2. Cleaning first, if needed. Tartar and surface stains are removed so the gel can reach the enamel. Lucid offers a pain-reducing quick scaling.
  3. Shade record. Your starting shade is noted so you can see the change.
  4. Whitening. Gums are protected and the whitening gel applied in-office, or custom trays are made for home use.
  5. Aftercare advice. What to avoid in the first days and how to keep results longer.

Expats enrolled in Korean national health insurance can typically have one scaling per calendar year covered from age 19; see annual NHIS scaling in Korea. Whitening itself is cosmetic and not covered.

How do I keep whitening results longer?

Results fade gradually with everyday staining. Coffee, tea, red wine, curry and smoking are common causes. Rinse with water after dark drinks, keep up regular cleanings, and use touch-up trays only as your dentist advises. Wait before choosing shades for any new crown or veneer, because tooth color settles for a while after whitening.

Should I whiten before veneers or crowns?

Yes, if you plan both. Whitening first lets the new restoration be matched to your brighter natural teeth. This matters at Lucid because LUCINATE veneers are a common next step for patients whose stains do not respond, and the shade is chosen once. The tooth whitening service page explains the treatment in more detail. Individual results vary; a consultation and exam are required.

What does whitening cost in Korea compared with home?

Lucid quotes whitening after an exam, because the method and number of sessions vary. For context, CareCredit's US cost list, based on a 2023–2024 Synchrony study, gives an average of $792 for in-office laser whitening. Cosmetic whitening is VAT-taxable in Korea, and the tourist medical VAT refund ended on 31 December 2025. Our international patient hub covers payment and planning.

Frequently asked questions

Can I whiten my teeth during a short trip to Seoul?

Often, yes. In-office whitening usually takes one visit, though a cleaning may be needed first. Book early in your stay so there is time if a second session is advised.

Is whitening safe if I have fillings on my front teeth?

Whitening will not harm fillings, but it will not lighten them either, so they may look darker afterwards. The dentist will point out visible fillings at the exam so you can plan.

How white will my teeth get?

It depends on your natural shade and the type of stain. Yellow staining tends to respond better than gray or brown, and the dentist will give a realistic expectation after checking your teeth.

Can I drink coffee after whitening?

It is wise to limit dark drinks and foods for the first day or two while teeth are more prone to staining. Drinking through a straw and rinsing with water also helps.

Do you offer whitening on Saturdays?

Lucid is open 10:00–16:00 on Saturdays with no lunch break. Whitening appointments depend on availability, so message us with your preferred day.

Should pregnant women whiten their teeth?

Most dentists advise postponing cosmetic whitening during pregnancy and breastfeeding as a precaution. Mention it at booking and we can plan cleaning or other care instead.
