Why do most implant patients need two trips?

Because bone needs time to fuse with the implant. Cleveland Clinic states that this process, osseointegration, can take three to nine months depending on how quickly your body heals. The implant is placed on trip one and the crown is fitted on trip two.

In a British Dental Association survey of UK dentists about dental tourism, crowns (87%) and implants (85%) were the treatments most often identified as problematic. 65% of respondents said remedial costs exceeded £500, and 51% said they exceeded £1,000. NHS England's policy is that the NHS will stabilize complications from treatment abroad, but will not usually replace self-funded work such as implants.
